PEI Doodles

Happy, healthy puppies

We raise our puppies with not just love but with ENS and ESI.

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

&

Early Scent Introduction (ESI)

You may not have heard of ENS or ESI, but we agree with experts that these exercises are important for a healthier, better dog. That is why we make sure that each of our puppies from 3-16 days old practice these exercises. Day 3-16 is believed to be a time of rapid neurological growth & development.

So what are ENS & ESI? Glad you asked!

ENS

Let's start with Early Neurological Stimulation, or ENS. It was developed by the US military and known as the "Bio Sensor Program," and later referred to by the public as the "Super Dog Program." ENS is believed by some experts to enhance the natural abilities of dogs and give them a superior advantage. It involves subjecting pups aged 3-16 days to 5 forms of stimulation that lead to “stress.” It is said to benefit puppy development in 5 ways:

  • Improved heart rate

  • Stronger heartbeats

  • Stronger adrenal glands

  • Better tolerance to stress

  • Greater resistance to disease

ESI stands for Early Scent Introduction. Early Scent Introduction is performed in conjunction with Bio-Sensor training (ENS). A pungent scent is introduced to the puppy each day for short intervals. Their reaction to the scent is then recorded. A positive reaction is when a puppy will try to move towards the scent with their nose highly engaged in the scent. A negative reaction will have the puppy pulling back from the scent. A neutral reaction will be when the puppy does not seem interested or disinterested.  If a puppy is being purchased for specific training in the future, having information on their reactions is how you start.

We make sure puppies are not fearful.  They are provided cuddles throughout the entire process.

Some of our puppies have continued to be trained as service animals.    They are exposed to children, other animals and are very well rounded happy puppies.

Once our pups are old enough, outdoor training is started. They go outdoors in our fenced in yard numerous times each day starting when they are about 4 weeks of age.

Artificial Insemination

Sometimes a little help is needed.  AI services available. Three sessions are recommended for better results.  Each session is $125.  Success rate mirrors natural breeding.

Litter Assistance/Advice

Advice is always free. I would rather help with no judgement then see mom/pups put at risk.

If you have a litter of puppies and are unable to whelp, if you relinquish ownership, I will train as I do with all of my pups, vaccinate and find optimal homes for each as I do my own.

Getting to know us

My name is Elaine Barnes.  I am originally from Newfoundland and moved to Prince Edward Island back in 1988.  I started breeding in the 1990's and bred CKC registered West Highland White Terriers.   Life sometimes gets in the way of things and I took a break from breeding for several years.

My son loves animals as do I which brought me back to breeding once again.  What drew me to Bernedoodles and Aussiedoodles was not just the genetic diversity which makes healthier dogs, they are relatively low shedders but wonderful companions/service animals for those suffering from PTSD, anxiety, or daily stress.

Many of my dogs have gone on to be support animals thanks to the training that the puppies receive prior to and after going to their new homes.

There are animals every day that end up in shelters across North America.  In my application, I ask alot of questions to make sure that your home is "their" forever home.

All of the pups raised by PEI Doodles are raised in our home.   They are exposed to all the smells, sounds of a normal busy household.  They are handled by children, exposed to other animals and trained starting at 3 days old.  Potty training outside starts when they are old enough, usually about 4 weeks of age depending on the weather.
